Program Overview

The pediatric radiology fellowship program is a 2-year ACGME-I accredited program at Sidra Medicine, which is the principal tertiary hospital for Qatar and the sole provider of multiple subspecialty services such as neurology and pediatric cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery. The program offers excellent training and broad exposure to all aspects of diagnostic pediatric radiology. During the fellowship, fellows will rotate throughout a variety of clinical rotations including ultrasound, fluoroscopy, body and neuro CT/MRI as well as fetal imaging and interventional radiology. Fellows are also given 3 months of elective to rotate in their area of interest, which includes cardiac imaging. The department offers a multidisciplinary environment with fellows interacting daily with all pediatric subspecialties. In addition to educational rounds, the follows participate and present in numerous multidisciplinary meetings such as oncology rounds, surgical rounds, epilepsy sounds, and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) rounds, amongst many others. Finally, research and quality improvement projects are embedded in the radiology curriculum.

Goals and Objectives

  • To develop advanced subspecialty knowledge, clinical experience, and skills in all imaging modalities of pediatric radiology, including fluoroscopy, radiography, ultrasound, body, cardiac & MSK CT/MR, neuro CT/MR, fetal imaging, PET and nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology.
  • To become an expert diagnostic specialist through a solid evidence-based approach to both common and rare pediatric diseases of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.
  • To develop competent and confident independence in the practice of pediatric radiology.

Clinical Training and Key Rotations

During the 2-year training program, fellows are expected to vet, protocol, supervise, perform and report studies under the supervision of a pediatric radiologist. They will be exposed to all imaging modalities, attending for outpatient, inpatient and emergency services.  Fellows receive direct and indirect supervision as well as get many opportunities for mentorship. Quality improvement initiatives and research is required and fellows are given dedicated half-day protected time per week to work on their projects, In addition, they have protected time to attend didactics and participate in multi-disciplinary meetings. The program follows ACGME-I guidelines for duty hours.

Entry Requirements

  • Completion of an ACGME-I accredited or equivalent residency training program in Diagnostic Radiology.
  • Board certification in core specialty (Diagnostic Radiology).
  • Hold a valid Medical License or be eligible for licensure in Qatar (click here for more details).
