Critical Care Medicine (PCCM)
Program Overview
The PCCM Fellowship Program at Sidra Medicine provides fellows with a learning environment that will enable them to become expert practitioners in the field of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. The fellowship faculty work closely with each fellow during their training which can be tailored based on their experience and to meet individual career aspirations. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education – International (ACGME-I) and as such the ACGME-I Competencies are fully integrated into the curriculum and encounter based evaluation system.
Goals and Objectives
The educational mission of the Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program is to produce clinically competent fellows who competently diagnose, and manage patients presenting with the full range of illnesses, diseases and conditions seen in the pediatric critical care unit. The overall goals of the program are four-fold:
- To provide fellows with an understanding of the pathophysiology of life-threatening disease and injury, and the cognitive and technical skills required to independently diagnose and manage critically ill infants, children and adolescents.
- To foster intellectual curiosity, advance fellows’ knowledge of the basic principles of research and to mentor each fellow in the pursuit of scholarly activity related to pediatric critical care.
- To enable fellows to become effective educators in pediatric critical care medicine.
- To assist fellows to become efficient administrators through supervised acquisition of experience in management and problem-solving within the multidisciplinary pediatric intensive care unit.
Clinical Training and Key Rotations
The three-year program is structured to ensure the educational program includes:
- 12 months of pediatric critical care medicine.
- 4 months cardiac critical care medicine.
- 2 months pediatric anesthesia.
- 6 months of interventional radiology, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), adult intensive care, trauma/burns and other potential elective experiences.
- 12 months of protected time for research.

Entry Requirements
- Completion of an ACGME-I accredited or equivalent residency training program in Pediatrics.
- Board certification in core specialty (Pediatrics).
- Hold a valid Medical License or be eligible for licensure in Qatar (click here for more details).
