The Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship Program at Sidra Medicine is dedicated to cultivating highly skilled and compassionate pediatric nephrologists. Our program offers a comprehensive curriculum that seamlessly integrates clinical and research components, providing fellows with the essential knowledge and expertise to deliver exceptional care to children with renal disorders. Goals and Objectives
The primary goals of our program are centered on the holistic development of fellows as proficient clinicians, effective educators, and skilled researchers in the field of pediatric nephrology. We have meticulously crafted a curriculum that combines didactic sessions, hands-on clinical experience, and research opportunities to provide fellows with a well-rounded educational experience.
Our program is designed to enhance fellows' understanding of pediatric renal diseases, going beyond the surface level to delve into the intricacies of diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management. By immersing fellows in a rich learning environment, we aim to sharpen their diagnostic acumen and equip them with evidence-based strategies for effective patient care.

Clinical Training and Key Rotations
Our fellowship program provides an extensive and comprehensive clinical training plan that encompasses a wide range of subspecialties within pediatric nephrology. Fellows will gain exposure to various modalities of renal replacement therapy, including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapy. Additionally, they will receive training in transplantation, hypertension management, glomerular diseases, urinary tract abnormalities, and apheresis therapies. Our program aims to equip fellows with a comprehensive understanding of the diverse aspects of pediatric nephrology, ensuring they are well-prepared to address the complex needs of their patients across a broad spectrum of conditions and treatments.
Key Rotations |
Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis: Fellows will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an independent pediatric-only dialysis unit, becoming proficient in both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis techniques. |
Inpatient Consultations and Service: Fellows will actively participate in inpatient consultations, working closely with the interdisciplinary team to manage complex cases and provide specialized care to children with renal disorders. |
Renal Pathology Rotation: Fellows will engage in a dedicated rotation in renal pathology, collaborating with pathologists to enhance their understanding of renal histopathology and develop skills in interpreting biopsy findings. |
Pediatric Urology Rotation: This rotation focuses on collaboration with pediatric urologists, allowing fellows to gain insight into the surgical management of congenital urological anomalies and their impact on renal health. |
Adult Nephrology Rotation: To foster a comprehensive understanding of nephrology care, fellows will have the opportunity to spend time in an adult nephrology setting, gaining exposure to the unique challenges and considerations in the transition of care from pediatric to adult patients. |
HLA Typing and Match Testing: Fellows will learn the principles and techniques of HLA typing and match testing, essential for the evaluation of potential donors and recipients in kidney transplantation. |
Research Rotations: Our program emphasizes the importance of research in advancing the field of pediatric nephrology. Fellows will have dedicated research rotations, allowing them to engage in ongoing projects, contribute to scholarly publications, and develop research skills |
Entry Requirements
- Completion of an ACGME-I accredited or equivalent residency training program in Pediatrics.
- Board certification in core specialty (Pediatrics).
- Hold a valid Medical License or be eligible for licensure in Qatar (click here for more details).
- Demonstrate strong interest in pediatric nephrology, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to scholarly activities
