Program Overview

The Pediatric Hematology Oncology Fellowship Program at Sidra Medicine is a three-year training program that prepares physicians to become clinician educators with an opportunity to add one additional year for advanced training for an advanced/specific training.

Our Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Fellowship program is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of pediatric specialists who will make a significant impact on the lives of children and adolescents (Birth-18 years) with hematological and oncological disorders.

By providing a comprehensive training experience, fostering research excellence, and emphasizing compassionate care, we aim to empower our fellows to excel in their careers and become leaders in the field of pediatric hematology-oncology. Goals and Objectives

The intent of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology fellowship program is to train pediatricians in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of diseases to provide comprehensive, compassionate care for children and adolescents. Our training program is unique and diverse though holds to a common goal to provide future academic pediatricians with a foundation to become competent clinicians, researchers, and teachers.

  • Clinical Excellence: Train fellows to become adept in the diagnosis, management, and comprehensive care of children and adolescents with various hematological and oncological conditions, including leukemia, lymphoma, solid tumors, and blood disorders.
  • Research Proficiency: Instill a strong foundation in research methodologies, critical analysis of scientific literature, and the conduct of original research projects to advance the understanding and treatment of pediatric hematological and oncological diseases.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Encourage fellows to collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals, including surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists, and social workers, to deliver well-rounded, patient-centered care.
  • Leadership and Advocacy: Foster leadership skills and promote advocacy for pediatric patients, both at the institutional level and in the broader medical community.

Clinical Training and Key Rotations

The components of the fellowship include:

  • Clinical Rotations: Fellows will participate in a variety of clinical rotations across hematology, oncology, and bone marrow transplantation services. Rotations will be supervised by experienced faculty, and fellows will gain hands-on experience in managing complex cases.
  • Research Opportunities: Fellows will have dedicated research time to pursue their scholarly interests. They will work closely with research mentors to develop and execute research projects, leading to publications and presentations at national conferences.
  • Didactic Education: Regular didactic sessions, grand rounds, tumor boards, and journal clubs will enrich fellows' knowledge of the latest advancements in pediatric hematology-oncology.
  • Patient Care Conferences/MDTs: Fellows will actively participate in multidisciplinary patient care conferences, where they will present cases, participate in treatment planning, and engage in collaborative discussions.
  • Mentorship: Each fellow will receive ongoing mentorship from the faculty, facilitating personalized guidance and support throughout the fellowship duration.
  • Teaching Experience: Fellows will have opportunities to engage in teaching medical students and residents, refining their communication and teaching skills.

Entry Requirements

  • Completion of an ACGME-I accredited or equivalent residency training program in Pediatrics.
  • Board certification in core specialty (Pediatrics).
  • Hold a valid Medical License or be eligible for licensure in Qatar (click here for more details).
