Program Overview

Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship is offered by the Pediatric Division of Department of Anesthesia at Sidra Medicine. It is an ACGME-I accredited 2-year comprehensive training program that allows fellows to gain knowledge, skills and attitude required to become independent practitioners in pediatric anesthesia. The fellows will have the opportunity to learn from highly qualified and experienced faculty dedicated in their practice to Pediatric Anesthesia. They will gain wide and varied clinical experience in anesthetic care of pediatric patients ranging from premature babies, neonates, infants up to age of 18 years while working in the various subspecialties of Pediatrics. The program incorporates training in perioperative pediatric medicine with mandatory rotations in pediatric and cardiac intensive care units, and Pediatric pain management services. The program has a broad educational curriculum that ensures our fellows gain scholarly experience, team leadership skills, and supervisory experience expected of Attending Physician/Consultants in the field of pediatric anesthesiology.

Goals and Objectives

The Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship Program provides the opportunity for an individual to acquire knowledge and skills in pediatric anesthesia in preparation for independent practice in the specialty. The goals and objectives of the fellowship training are structured as per the six core competencies set by ACGME-I framework, these include:

  • To acquire the specialized fund of knowledge, clinical judgment, and technical skills required to independently provide safe, evidence based anesthetic care for a wide variety of pediatric patients. This includes children of all ages with and without associated medical comorbidities, undergoing surgical or diagnostic procedures, both simple and complex.
  • To develop as a clinical teacher and to learn to supervise the anesthetic care of anesthesiology residents and medical students during their pediatric anesthesia rotation.
  • To gain a familiarity with research methods and help carry out a research project.
  • To create an environment that instructs and encourages the fellow to become a life-long learner.
