Program Overview
The Department of Orthopedic Surgery is one of the busiest departments in the hospital caring for acute and chronic conditions to the most complex patients with musculoskeletal diseases. Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery subspecialty believes that interdisciplinary care, collaborative research and valuable teaching will give fellows in this program the skills required to undertake the most important questions in pediatric orthopedic problems.
Goals and Objectives
The goal of the fellowship program is to produce independent practitioners who are capable of providing excellent pediatric orthopedic care to children and also capable of pursuing an academic career, which would include research. The Fellowship Program goals and objectives are derived from the six core competencies:
Medical Knowledge, Patient Care Skills, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Professionalism, Practice Based Learning and Systems Based Learning.
Program Duration and Nature
The Division of Orthopedic Surgery offers a two-year clinical fellowship training to Orthopedic surgeons who are interested in becoming pediatric orthopedic surgeons. Our program provides experience in a wide range of congenital and acquired orthopedic conditions including pediatric trauma, neuromuscular diseases, bone dysplasia, limb deficiencies, limb length discrepancy, major deformities, pediatric spine problems, orthopedic oncology and sports medicine.
Fellows will undertake rotations with several surgeons; each rotation period consists of sixteen weeks (one block is equivalent to four weeks). After one year, the fellow will have the right to have a four-week vacation, which he/she can take as a full block or divide it.
Entry Requirements
- Completion of an ACGME-I accredited or equivalent residency training program in Orthopedic Surgery.
- Board certification in core specialty (Orthopedic Surgery).
- Hold a valid Medical License or be eligible for licensure in Qatar (click here for more details).
