“The opening of the Sidra Medicine Outpatient Clinic has been an opportunity for us to proudly showcase the skills and expertise of our diverse healthcare leaders and teams. Their hard work has made it possible for Sidra Medicine to offer patient and family centric services that will match the excellence of our medical care and the needs of our patients,” said Peter Morris, the Chief Executive Officer of Sidra Medicine.
About the clinics and services launched on 1 May at the Sidra Medicine Outpatient Clinic:
The General Surgery Consultation clinic currently sees patients aged 14 years or younger who may need surgical care by a pediatric general surgeon. It provides consultation to patients with abdominal (including hernia), head and neck, diaphragm, thoracic, skin and soft tissue, liver, biliary and neonatal (newborn) conditions/diseases that may require surgery. In addition to endoscopic procedures, the team provides consultations for genito-urinary procedures.
The Dermatology clinic specializes in skin conditions related to eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis and acne and skin infections. Once the Sidra Medicine Outpatient Clinic is fully operational by early 2017, the dermatology clinic will be able to treat all skin conditions that do not require hospitalization.
The Obstetrics Clinic currently provides access to routine prenatal care, education and testing. Sidra Medicine’s doctors and nurses closely monitor the health and well-being of both the mother and her baby. Pregnant patients referred to Sidra Medicine for care will give birth at Hamad Medical Corporation-Women’s Hospital (HMC-WH) under teams of Sidra Medicine and HMC-WH physicians. They will also be admitted to HMC-WH during pregnancy for any emergency care or assessment where the Sidra Medicine physicians work collaboratively with their HMC colleagues.
Radiology and diagnostic imaging services at the Sidra Medicine Outpatient Clinic include x-rays of all body parts, ultrasound and computed tomography (CT) scans of the head, neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services.
Pathology services at the Sidra Medicine Outpatient Clinic include routine and specialized outpatient testing in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and anatomical pathology with genetic testing services to be launched in a few weeks. In collaboration with HMC, the laboratory will focus on delivering high quality laboratory diagnostic services to patients at Sidra Medicine, in order to enhance the diagnosis, treatment, management, and prevention of childhood and maternal diseases in Qatar.
Plans are in place to offer more pediatric services at the Sidra Medicine Outpatient Clinic. Services and clinics scheduled for launch include neonatology consultation, developmental pediatrics, child and adolescent mental health, Ear Nose and Throat (ENT), pre-operative anesthetic assessment and preparation services.
“Our services and clinics for women and children at the Sidra Medicine Outpatient Clinic will develop month after month through the course of 2016. By early next year, we expect to see nearly 5000 patients per week at the Sidra Medicine Outpatient Clinic and to be fully operational with 40 clinics by January 2017,” concluded Mr. Morris.
