PMFG 2024 Session to Guide Next Generation of Biomedical and Genomic Researchers

26 November 2024, Doha, Qatar - Sidra Medicine, a Qatar Foundation entity and a leading healthcare provider in Qatar, will host an insightful career guidance session as part of its highly anticipated Precision Medicine and the Future of Genomics 2024 Summit (PMFG 2024).

Titled, “Evaluating Your Career Choices: Opportunities in Big Pharma vs. Startups and Academia vs. Research Institutes”, the session will guide participants in navigating diverse career paths within biomedical and genomic research. It will offer a comprehensive overview of the opportunities and challenges in pharmaceutical companies, biotech startups, academia, and research institutes.

The session at PMFG 2024, has been especially set up for graduates and early-career professionals from universities and institutions in Qatar which have related research programs - such as Qatar University, Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, and Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU).

Featuring a panel with Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Subaiey and Dr. Essam Abdelalim from Sidra Medicine; Dr. Dan Ory (Arbor Bio, USA); Dr. Rayaz Malik (Weill Cornell Medicine - Qatar) and with Dr. Georges Nemer (HBKU) serving as session chair, it will address skill-building, overcoming sector challenges, and alternative career routes.

Sidra Medicine will also launch the Genomics Education and Navigating Excellence for Students program (GENEStars) at PMFG 2024. This new initiative aims to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders in precision medicine, providing a platform for students to engage with cutting-edge genomics research and innovation. GENEStars will become an annual feature of the summit, with outstanding participants recognized during the opening ceremony on 3 December – building a strong network of future ambassadors for the field in Qatar.

PMFG 2024 will be held under the patronage of the Human Genome Organization (HUGO) and the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health, with Qatar Precision Health Institute as a strategic partner, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as a knowledge partner, Qatar National Bank as the Official Diamond Patronage and Sponsor, and Msheireb Museums as a community partner.
