Child and Adolescent Mental Health

At Sidra Medicine, the Division of Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) can provide your child and family with quality mental health services and resources.

Our goal is to increase community awareness of mental health concerns in children and adolescents, including anxiety, depression, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and autism-related disorders. There are no stigmas here. When it comes to mental health, we believe it is of the utmost importance that everyone has access to the compassionate, knowledgeable healthcare they need.

Prepared to Treat a Wide Variety of Mental Health Conditions

With an expert team of child and adolescent psychiatrists and psychologists, all of whom are trained in excellent programs and universities abroad, we provide comprehensive Child and Adolescent Mental Health services to children and young people from 5 to 18 years of age. We also have an outstanding nursing and allied health staff to support the CAMHS team.

After an initial evaluation and a second opinion from our mental health professionals, we provide ongoing care for a wide range of mental health conditions using psychotherapy, medication, and psychological assessments.

Some of the conditions we treat include:

  • Autism spectrum disorder

  • Oppositional defiant disorder
  • Depressive disorders
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Psychosis

Mental Health Emergencies

If your child has a mental health emergency, such as suicidal thoughts, abnormally aggressive behavior, depression, or psychosis, they can be evaluated at the Sidra Medicine emergency room (ER). The CAMHS team assists the ER with mental health emergencies by assisting the child or young person and making referrals to appropriate medical resources. After the initial assessment, we will help your family figure out what to do next.

Referrals

To make it more convenient for the families, any teacher or school counselor can also refer the child or young person to us by completing our referral form. Once the information is received, children and young people are seen (triaged) based on the severity of their condition. Our goal is to see urgent referrals within seven days and routine referrals within 30 days after the referral is triaged.
