Many patients who have been admitted to the hospital for a serious injury or illness also require mental health services to help them cope. At Sidra Medicine, child and adolescent psychiatry consultation services are an integral part of our tertiary care pediatric hospital. Our inpatient mental health consultation team offers one of the first comprehensive service for children and young people in the Middle East. Through this service, we can assess your child’s mental health while in the hospital and make sure they receive the care they need to improve their comfort and recovery.

Consultations

Our consultation services includes assessment and treatment recommendations of co-occurring medical and psychiatric disorders such as:

Mood disorders
Anxiety disorders
Suicidal or self-injurious thoughts
Behavioral problems
Medical illnesses with psychiatric disorders
Chronic pain
Failure to thrive
Adjustment to chronic medical illnesses
Organic neuropsychiatric syndromes

How the Consultation Works

During your child’s treatment at Sidra Medicine, one of our medical professionals may recommend he or she receives a mental health consultation. Our clinician will first meet with you to explain the purpose of the referral to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. Following a detailed assessment, we will provide you with feedback regarding diagnosis and recommend treatments. Treatment may include counseling and/or medications.

Where possible we would like to meet together with you and your child so that our advice can be most suited to you and your family’s situation. We will also provide feedback and recommendations to the referrer and your treatment team.
