Immunology

Immunity plays an important role in health maintenance and pathogenesis. Enhancing both our understanding of immunological mechanisms at play during disease development and boosting immune profiling capabilities at the bedside are the overarching priorities of the Immunology department at Sidra Medicine. The Immunology department is organized as a multi-disciplinary group that employs cutting-edge cellular and molecular profiling approaches in the context of patient-based studies. The department comprises of investigators whose expertise ranges from immunogenetics, tumor immunology, molecular and cellular immunology to systems immunology. This expertise is currently being applied towards addressing clinical needs of patient with rare inborn genetic disorders causing defects in immunity as well as patients with prevalent diseases such as asthma or diabetes. It also strives to foster research activities in different clinical units, including Sidra Medicine’s neonatal intensive care, pathology as well as the obstetrics and gynecology departments.
