Sidra Medicine is proud to celebrate the distinguished honor received by our Division Chief of Pediatrics and Director, Sidra Medicine Cardiovascular Center of Excellence, Dr. Ziyad M. Hijazi’s in being selected as one of 18 physicians for inaugural recipients of the Master Fellowship from the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (MSCAI). The fellowship is given to a narrow set of SCAI members, nominated for outstanding achievements and contributions to the field of cardiac, endovascular angiography and interventions.
The designated MSCAI is acknowledged by their colleagues to show dedication to the highest standards of clinical care, innovation, research and teaching. According to SCAI, “An MSCAI sets a moral and ethical example for others, strives for excellence in patient care, and is committed to the highest professional standards.”
The SCAI was created in 1978 to promote excellence in invasive and interventional cardiovascular medicine through physician education and representation, as well as the advancement of quality standards to enhance patient care. The SCAI is the largest and only Society that represents interventional cardiologists all over the world with over 5000 members. Dr. Hijazi was the 31st president of this Society.
“I am humbled to receive this award from a group of professionals I have immense respect for. The work we do is making a significant difference to patient’s lives with the use of new technologies and innovations, working towards eliminating the need for open heart surgeries in children and adults with congenital heart disease, something I will continue to strive for at Sidra Medicine and in Qatar,” said Dr. Hijazi.
Dr. Hijazi is internationally known for his pioneering use of new technologies in the hope of removing the need for open heart surgeries in children and adults with congenital heart disease, most recently being honored by the A Giving Heart Foundation, based in Chicago, Illinois, U.S. The Foundation was set up to raise money for research in bioresorbable stents and percutaneous valves, which Dr. Hijazi is an authority on.
