Conference theme “Moving Collaboration, Education and Training Beyond Borders” aimed at addressing global surgical challenges

Doha, Qatar, 29 May 2019Sidra Medicine is pleased to announce that the registration link for WOFAPS 2019 is now live.

WOFAPS (World Federation of Associations of Pediatric Surgeons) will be hosted by Sidra Medicine in Qatar for the first time from 1 to 3 November 2019 at the Qatar National Convention Center.

Commenting on the congress, Dr. Mansour Ali, Chair of Pediatric Surgery at Sidra Medicine and the Middle East WOFAPS Representative said, “With a theme based on Moving Collaboration, Education and Training Beyond Borders, Qatar will be welcoming the brightest and innovative thought leaders in the surgical and medical field. As a surgeon in Qatar, I am privileged to work in a hospital like Sidra Medicine that is dedicated to advancing the care of children. With the support of the Qatar Foundation and the government of Qatar, we have made significant advances to achieve many milestones that are a first for the country and in the region. In a matter of months after opening our inpatient hospital in January 2018, we have done much to do be proud of, including the conjoined twin separation; surgeries for young patients with short bowel syndrome; epilepsy; bladder exstrophy; craniofacial deformities; congenital heart diseases and orthopedic challenges and much more. We look forward to sharing our success stories with our global peers at WOFAPS 2019 and learning from them in return.”

WOFAPS 2019 aims to cover the most cutting edge advances in pediatric surgical care in addition to addressing the current challenges impeding optimal surgical care for children in high and low income countries. Over 1000 surgeons from all over the world are expected to join the congress.

“WOFAPS 2019 is an excellent opportunity for surgeons in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and South America in particular, where many surgeons have to deliver care in resource challenged settings. This will be a major theme of the conference. I, along with my colleagues from the Department of Surgery, encourage our surgical peers and affiliates from around the world to join us at WOFAPS 2019, where perspectives of care from resource rich and resource challenged settings will be discussed for each of the major congenital surgical problems we face,” Dr. Ali continued.
