Because Your Precious is Our Precious Too

Sidra Medicine has partnered with the nation-wide Qatar Child Safety Program “Ghalai” to promote child safety in vehicles.

Choosing and installing a car seat can be an overwhelming task for most people. Ghalai is ready to help you work through all your questions and worries when it comes to car seats.

The Ghalai station at Sidra Medicine is a custom-built air-conditioned center, located in the basement parking (Tower A) of our main hospital.  The station can accommodate two cars and aims to serve patients and families as well as the general public.

It is manned by certified child passenger safety technicians who will provide education for parents and/or caregivers regarding car seats. This includes benefits of wearing car seats/ the most suitable types of car seats based on age and weight. The technicians will also demonstrate and teach parents how to properly install a car seat and help them install their own car seats in their cars.

Who can we help?

  • If you are pregnant or are new parents – we can help you decide which type of car seat will work best for your baby and your car.
  • If you are having your baby at Sidra Medicine or any other hospital – visit us before your baby is born so that you can take your baby home knowing that they are safe from day one.
  • Families with one or more children – we can advise you on how to position the car seats best to suit the whole family
  • We can also advise how you can tell when your child/children need to change to a different type of car seat.
  • We can also help parents of children with special needs find the right kind of car seat to meet their child’s needs.
  • We also encourage grandparents, caregivers or drivers including other family members or if you are expecting visitors with children who may wish to use car seats while temporarily in Qatar, drivers – to come and get help and advice.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Ghalai program does not offer or sell car seats. It is a free consultation service manned by trained technicians who will advise you which car seats would be appropriate and once you have made your purchase, you can bring it to the Ghalai station where the technicians will teach and demonstrate how to install the car seats in your car.

About the Ghalai Program

The  QCPS “Ghalai” program  – which means my precious in Arabic, is set up by Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health and led by Hamad Medical Corporation.

It is a joint collaboration featuring government and non-governmental organizations including Sidra Medicine – who are actively working together to help ensure child passenger safety and to support parents and caregivers with the right resources and educational tools.
