Baby Zain was born with multiple cardiovascular complications including Tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, a small restrictive ventricular septal defect and a subaortic ridge.
The Heart Center team performed several life-saving procedures, including cardiac catheterization, open heart surgery, emergency right ventricle reconnection, and a full Tetralogy of Fallot repair. Due to her health condition, Zain was an inpatient at Sidra Medicine for nearly six months, where the team worked round the clock to save her life and nurse her back to health.
Her mother said: “Our daughter was born with multiple cardiovascular issues and underwent two open-heart surgeries in a span of two months. It was a very difficult time but we felt that we were in the safest of hands, particularly with Dr. Olivier Ghez. He was very comforting and reassuring and was the one who performed the complex surgeries on Zain. We want to thank everyone at Sidra Medicine who saved our daughter’s life. I also want to acknowledge the Cardiac ICU team, who were amazing in supporting us as a family. We feel truly blessed to be in a country and to receive such extraordinary and excellent care. We really believe that the main reason Zain is here today is because of the care she received at Sidra Medicine.”
Zain will undergo further procedures including another catheterization and a pulmonary artery intervention. However, thanks to our care, she is on her way to a healthy, normal life.
