24 February 2020, Doha – Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation, has announced new program additions to its Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Symposium 2020, which will held in Doha from 7th to 9th March 2020.
As a strong alignment with Qatar’s National Health strategy 2018-2022 priority targets: Healthy women leading to healthy pregnancies, the MCH Symposium 2020 will host an additional seminar and community workshops.
The community workshops, one in English and in Arabic, in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health, will be hosted on the 4th of March 2020 at Sidra Medicine. The workshops are aimed at pregnant women and first time mothers to address common questions around nutrition and exercise during pregnancy as well as breastfeeding. As a precursor to the symposium, Sidra Medicine research department will also host a seminar on the 5th of March 2020, where global and local health challenges will be addressed by two leading healthcare experts.
Titled “Current advances in the field of obesity, diabetes and heart disease” the pre-symposium seminar will feature Prof. Kent L. Thornburg, Professor of Medicine from Oregon Health and Science University and Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Bin Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani, the Director of Public Health from Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health.
Prof. Thornburg, in addition to being a keynote speaker at the main MCH Symposium 2020, will talk at the pre-conference seminar about “Healthy Women, Healthy Society” about reducing the vulnerabilities in young girls and women from acquiring chronic diseases and implementing appropriate intervention strategies. Sheikh Dr. Mohammed’s talk will focus on the status of non-communication diseases in Qatar and the national strategies to reduce them. To register for the seminar, please email: mbrunsman@sidra.org.

The MCH Symposium 2020 will cover both translational and clinical research with sessions looking at understanding the role of lifestyle and women’s health in fertility; the role of infectious and chronic diseases in reproductive health as well as the latest updates on the novel tools and protocols used in IVF and in management of pregnancy complications. The MCH Symposium 2020 has been approved for a maximum of 20.5 hours as an Accredited Group Learning Activity Category 1 as defined by the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners- Accreditation Department (QCHP-AD).
