Sidra Medicine Appoints Dr. Catherine Owens as Chair of Department of Diagnostic Imaging

Doha, Qatar, 20 February 2019: Sidra Medicine the specialist women’s and children’s hospital has announced the appointment of Dr. Catherine Owens as the Chair of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging.

In her role, Dr. Owens will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of imaging including pediatric body imaging; pediatric interventional radiology; pediatric neuro imaging and pediatric nuclear medicine and molecular imaging. This role provides leadership to a core group of multidisciplinary members of the radiology team, who are crucial to the care of patients for diagnosis and therapy.

The Department of Diagnostic Imaging at Sidra Medicine works closely with general pediatrics, pediatric surgery and many other sub-specialties such as cardiology and neurosurgery, to provide best-practice care to patients. In addition to offering highly specialized pediatric imaging services, Sidra Medicine recently installed Qatar’s first interventional MRI Surgery suite - IMRIS hybrid operating theater.

Commenting on the new appointment, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Abdulla Al Kaabi said: “We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Owens to Sidra Medicine. Dr. Owens joins Sidra Medicine from Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children – NHS Trust (GOSH) where she held the title of Consultant in Paediatric Radiology. Prior to GOSH, Dr. Owens was the consultant in paediatric radiology at the Imperial College School of Medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington.

Dr. Owens has a particular interest in cardiorespiratory, musculoskeletal and radiology of the immunocompromised child. She is the author of many scientific papers and guidelines and is considered as a leading expert in Cardiothoracic CT, Diffuse Interstitial Lung Disease and airways disease. She is also a senior councilor of the European Society of Paediatric Radiologists and a subcommittee member of the ESR EU driven Radiation Protection Subcommittee.

Dr. Owens received her pediatric radiology senior fellowship training from The Hospital for Sick Children Toronto, Canada; senior registrar training from GOSH and is a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists and Royal College of Physicians from where she received her postgraduate medical diploma.
