Appointment of Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham as Sidra Medicine Board Member

Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham, a globally recognized and influential innovator in the healthcare industry, has been appointed by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Sidra Medicine Board of Governors, as a Member of the Board of Sidra Medicine (Sidra).

“It is an honor to welcome Lord Darzi to the Sidra Medicine Board of Governors. As a trailblazer in healthcare reform and policy in the United Kingdom, Lord Darzi has also been instrumental in developing and guiding key national healthcare strategies in Qatar. We are pleased to have his considerable skills and insights focused on achieving Sidra Medicine’s vision to become a beacon of learning, discovery and exceptional care,” said Dr. Fathy Saoud, Vice Chairperson of the Board of Governors and Chairman of the Executive Committee of Sidra Medicine.

Professor Darzi has been involved with healthcare institutions in Qatar since 2010 and is a Board Member of the Supreme Council for Health. He played a key role in developing and supporting Qatar’s National Health Strategy, National Primary Healthcare Strategy as well as the National Cancer Strategy; helping transform the healthcare sector in Qatar to support the needs of a growing and evolving population.

“Sidra Medicine will undoubtedly become an international beacon of best practice and high-quality, academically-driven patient care. It was a privilege to be invited onto Sidra Medicine’s Board of Governors and I look forward to supporting this deeply important project for the health of Qatar,” said Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham PC KBE FRS.

Professor Darzi is Executive Chair for the World Innovation Summit for Health, a global summit promoting health innovation, which he helped launch last year in Qatar. He is also the Director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation at the Imperial College London. In January 2014, he was awarded the Qatari Sash of Independence by H.H. the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani in recognition of his contribution to the development of Qatar’s health sector.
