Sidra Medicine Embraces Implementation of Diagnostic AI to Improve Pediatric Emergency Care

Integrating advanced AI-powered imaging technology to pediatric emergency diagnostic

23 November 2025—Doha, Qatar: Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation, has adopted a new artificial intelligence tool within its Emergency Department (ED) and Diagnostic Imaging Unit to assist doctors in detecting fractures and dislocations in pediatric imaging. Integrated with the hospital’s Picture Archiving and Communication System, the software is now used daily in the fast-paced ED environment, helping physicians make quicker, more confident decisions for children who come in with injuries.

The software works by automatically analyzing X-ray images and highlighting potential areas of concern, acting as a second set of eyes for physicians. In a department where minutes matter, the technology has been credited with reducing waiting times and ensuring injuries are less likely to be overlooked. The solution has become a trusted support, giving physicians added reassurance when treating children with complex or subtle injuries.

Prof. Khalid Al Ansari, Chair of the Emergency Department at Sidra Medicine stated: “Our ED physicians have embraced this new AI-based tool. It helps us make rapid and accurate decisions, especially in challenging pediatric cases, and that directly translates into better outcomes for our young patients. The deployment of the AI solution marks an important step in the institution’s digital transformation, setting a practical example of how advanced technology can be seamlessly embedded into existing systems, directly benefiting both patients and staff.”

For families, the benefits are immediate. Children receive faster diagnoses and treatment, which means less time waiting in pain and fewer repeat visits. Parents also gain peace of mind knowing that their child’s X-rays have been reviewed not only by skilled physicians but also by advanced AI technology designed to reduce the risk of missed injuries. This combination of human expertise and intelligent support ensures safer, more reliable care for every pediatric patient.

Abdulrahman Hasna, Director of IT Applications at Sidra Medicine added: “Rolling out and integrating the imaging AI solution with our Picture Archiving and Communication System was seamless. This is a strong example of how technology can be deployed without adding complexity, while delivering real value to clinicians and patients alike. The successful integration proves that digital transformation in healthcare can be intuitive, efficient, and deeply supportive. We are proud that this project enhances diagnostic reliability and marks another milestone in Sidra Medicine’s commitment to smart, scalable, and secure healthcare technologies.”

Radiologists are also seeing the impact. With AI screening images before radiologists review them, reporting times have shortened, and communication of results to emergency physicians has become more efficient. The department notes that while the software does not replace clinical expertise, it enhances accuracy and confidence, ultimately speeding up the delivery of care to young patients.

Dr. Abdusamea Shabani, Chair of Radiology at Sidra Medicine stated: “The new AI tool is a powerful complement to our radiologists’ expertise. By pre-screening images, it improves efficiency and confidence, while maintaining the highest standards of diagnostic quality. The tool effectively prioritizes cases that may require more urgent attention, allowing our radiologists to allocate their time more strategically. This not only speeds up reporting but strengthens the collaboration between Radiology and the Emergency Department, ultimately delivering safer and more precise pediatric care.”

The adoption of diagnostic AI reflects Sidra Medicine’s broader commitment to advancing pediatric healthcare through innovation, precision, and patient-centered care. This initiative underscores Sidra Medicine’s role as a leader in digital health adoption, setting new standards for the future of pediatric care in Qatar and beyond.
