  • About Wafaa

    Dr. Wafaa graduated from Mansoura University in Egypt where she completed her pediatric residency training and obtained Master degree in pediatrics. She subsequently moved to the UK where she trained in pediatric hematology and bone marrow transplantation at London, West Midlands Deanery hospitals and Birmingham Children’s Hospital achieving membership of the Royal College of Pediatrics and child health and the Royal College of Pathologists in hematology.

    During this time she developed an interest in hemoglobinopathies and bone marrow transplantation and completed a period of research on Bone marrow transplantation in children with hemoglobinopathies in Birmingham University leading to an MD degree and abstract publications. She was the lead for pediatric hemoglobinopathy service at Leicester general infirmary in the UK where she has also led and improved the pediatric hematology service. She was the key member in writing and updating clinical guidelines for pediatric hemoglobinopathies and successfully led Leicester through the first red cell peer review visit in June 2010.

    Dr. Wafaa Abdelghany has been working as senior consultant pediatric hematology and bone marrow transplantation at Hamad General Hospital in Doha since 2013 and continues to lead and improve the service in these subspecialties.

    She is also the Director of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology fellowship program in Hamad General Hospital for the last 4 years and currently working on getting ACGMEI accreditation for the program. She has been actively involved in the internal peer review for the internal medicine residency program and the adult oncology fellowship program at Hamad General Hospital.

    She is a fellow of the Royal College of Pediatrics and child health, the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists. She is also a member of UK hemoglobinopathy forum, CCLG and EHA.
