About Mitchell Dr. Mitchell Stotland is a graduate of McGill Medical School in Montreal, Canada. His surgical training culminated with a Plastic Surgery residency at McGill, followed by a Craniofacial Surgery fellowship with Dr. Henry Kawamoto at the University of California at Los Angeles. In 1997 he joined the Division of Plastic Surgery at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) as a full-time attending surgeon, on faculty at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth (GSMD). In 2000, Dr. Stotland founded the “Face of a Child” Craniofacial Anomalies program at the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth, and grew the program census several-fold over the ensuing 14 years. Between 2004-2007, Dr. Stotland attended The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice and obtained a Master’s of Science degree in Evaluative Clinical Sciences. In 2005, Dr. Stotland founded the Radford C. Tanzer Plastic Surgery Symposium, and chaired the meeting through 2013. Over the past 15 years, Dr. Stotland’s research has been concentrated on the social perception of facial difference, and he has been the principal investigator on studies involving modalities such as fMRI and eye-tracking evaluation of facial contagion and congenital deformity. In 2012, Dr. Stotland obtained a US patent for “Gauge for Determining Nostril Deformity”, and currently has a US patent pending on “Interdental Anchoring Apparatuses and Methods”. In 2017 he founded EMDIO, LLC, a medical device company located in Delaware, US, focused on interdental anchoring apparatuses. While in practice at DHMC and GSMD, Dr. Stotland personally mentored dozens of medical students and residents, and delivered hundreds of teaching lectures. In 2014, Dr. Stotland came to Doha, Qatar and established the Division of Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery at Sidra Medicine. Since then, he has worked closely with medical students from Weill Cornell Medical College-Qatar throughout their curriculum in both formal teaching and clinical settings, and has also closely mentored Hamad Medical Corporation residents in both Plastic Surgery and Maxillofacial Surgery.
