Dr. Amrita Sarpal joined Sidra Medicine in February 2019 as a senior pediatric critical care attending, bringing dual expertise in pediatric critical care and pediatric palliative care medicine. Prior to that, she practiced as a pediatric intensivist at the University of Western Ontario for approximately six years.
She is the subspecialty fellowship program director for Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Sidra Medicine. Her clinical and academic interests include improving patient care through enhanced communication – including better Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems – and advancing palliative care. Dr. Sarpal is the chair of Palliative Care Network–Qatar (PCN-Q), a volunteer-driven group focusing on palliative care and end-of-life support for patients and their caregivers. She is also the deputy chair of the Clinical Ethics Committee.
Drawing on her expertise in critical care, palliative care, and medical education, as well as her skill set as a professional executive coach, Dr. Sarpal focuses her research on postgraduate medical education, communication, end-of-life care, palliative care, and healthcare provider distress and resilience.
