    Dr Zainab Imam obtained her medical degree in 1991 from The University of Ibadan in Nigeria following which she trained at the University College Hospital in Ibadan and worked at The National Hospital, Abuja at Nigeria in General Practice before moving to the United Kingdom (UK) where she retrained as a General Adult Psychiatrist and she has worked in Psychiatry since 2007 (over 10 years). She has specialist registration (CCT) in General Adult Psychiatry with endorsement in Rehabilitation Psychiatry. She also has Sub Specialty interests in Perinatal Psychiatry and Early Intervention in Psychosis. She is a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and she holds a One Year Intermediate Certificate of the University of Plymouth in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.

    She has worked as a Consultant in Psychiatry within the NHS since 2013 where she was Clinical Lead for development of perinatal mental health service in Plymouth and worked for a year as a Consultant in Perinatal Mental Health with the Exeter and Torbay Specialist Community Perinatal Teams (UK National Award Recipients of Positive Practice in Perinatal Mental Health 2016)

    Dr Imam has expertise in the treatment of Perinatal Mental illness including pre- and postnatal mood disorders and psychosis. She can also consult on preconception planning and perinatal medication management and other General Adult Mental Health conditions such as anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, psychosis, bipolar affective disorder and Adult ADHD.

    Prior to Joining Sidra Medicine, Dr Imam was an Honorary University Fellow of Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry where she was involved in clinical teaching and clinical examinations of undergraduate medical students. She was also the Module Lead for the General Adult Module of the Southwest Peninsula Deanery’s MRCPsych Course and she was responsible for updating the Module Booklet, which outlined the curriculum and available learning resources. She was also responsible for organizing the timetable, assigning lecturers and ensuring that feedbacks from trainees were acted upon. Dr Imam was an approved clinical and educational supervisor and trainer for core psychiatry trainees in the Southwest Peninsula Deanery in the UK.

    Dr Imam is a member of the Public Education Engagement Board of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, she is a Partner in Psychiatry-UK LLP, the only NHS and CQC approved provider of Tele-psychiatry services in the UK and she is a Faculty member of a United Nation’s Population Fund (UNFPA) Supported joint MANSAG and IDP Diaspora Support Group Trauma Counselling Training Program in Nigeria.

    Dr Imam is very excited about joining the Team at Sidra Medicine and she hopes to contribute to the development of Women’s Mental Health in the perinatal period in Sidra and in Qatar as a whole.
