Dr. Yusuke Nakamura

Dr. Yusuke Nakamura is the President of the National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition (NIBIOHN) in Japan.

Dr. Nakamura has held several distinguished positions in cancer research, clinical genetics, genomic medicine, biochemistry and molecular medicine with top-tier organizations in Japan and the USA.  Prior to his appointment as the President of NIBIOHN, Dr. Nakamura was the Director of the Cancer Precision Medicine Research Center, Japanese Foundation for Cancer Research.

Dr. Nakamura’s previous high-profile roles include Director of the Cross-Ministerial Strategic Innovation and Promotion Program, assigned by the Japanese Prime Minister (2018-2023); Deputy Director, Center for Personalized Therapeutics, The University of Chicago (2012-2018); Special Advisor to the Japanese Cabinet – Office of Medical Innovation (2011); and the Director of the RIKEN Center for Genomic Medicine, Japan (2005-2010).

He is the recipient of many awards, including the Medal with Purple Ribbon (Contribution in Education and Culture); Keio Medical Awards; Chen Award for Distinguished Academic Achievement in Human Genetic and Genomic Research (HUGO); Takeda Medical Award; and the Clarivate Citation Laureate.

Dr. Nakamura has been a member of several advisory and editorial boards including the Annals of Human Genetics, International Journal of Oncology, Journal of Human Genetics, Cancer Science and Cancer Research. He has published many ground-breaking research studies, and has been cited more than 500 times.

Dr. Nakamura graduated from Osaka University School of Medicine and was a postdoctoral fellow and a faculty member at Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the University of Utah.
