At Sidra Medicine, we are dedicated to providing world-class emergency care for children and adolescents. Our Pediatric Emergency Department (PED) is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, ensuring that your child receives immediate medical attention when needed.

Pediatric Emergency Department

The Emergency Department treats children and young people from 0 to 18 years old for medical and surgical emergencies. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

For bone injuries (fractures): Sidra Orthopedics treats children aged 0 up to 14 years old. Therefore, ED attendances ages 14 years and above with upper and lower limb injuries are not treated at Sidra Emergency Department and are redirected HMC Emergency for their care. Hand and finger injuries up to 18 years old can be seen at Sidra Emergency Department.

The emergency department treats severe and life-threatening conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Serious accidents: drowning events; motor vehicle accidents (see major trauma services)
  • Medical emergencies: suspected sepsis, heart problems, breathing difficulty, seizures
  • Other injuries such as cuts/lacerations and limb injuries

Part of Pediatric Emergency Department is the Major Trauma Service

Sidra Medicine is a key partner in the Qatar Trauma System, working alongside Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and the Qatar Ambulance Service. As part of this system, we provide major trauma care for seriously injured children aged 0 up to 14 years.

Children in this age group who require emergent trauma care are transported by air or land ambulance to Sidra Medicine, where they are immediately assessed and stabilized by our multidisciplinary trauma team, which includes specialized physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals.

Pediatric Urgent Care

The Urgent Care is a dedicated area located next to the Pediatric Emergency Department, open from 8.00 a.m. until 12 midnight daily (weekend hours vary). Outside of these hours, patients can still choose the service but will be seen in the main emergency department area.

Our Urgent Care Service offers treatment for less severe, non-critical medical conditions for children and young people aged 0 to 18 years and is a paid or insurance service. Such services are available at other health centers. At initial nursing assessment (triage), the patient’s family will be notified and given the choice as to whether they would like to have their child cared for at our Urgent Care Clinic or to try another hospital or clinic instead. Patients/families who choose to stay and be seen at Sidra are agreeing to pay for their care, as would happen in any other private facility.

This service enables us to stream less severely unwell medical patients to be seen more promptly by the physician. It provides treatment of children and young people from the ages of 0-18 years of age with non-life threatening or non-critical illnesses.

Examples of conditions seen at the Urgent Clinic include:

  • Colds and coughs, fever
  • Skin Rash
  • Diarrhea and vomiting
  • Nose bleeds
  • Constipation
  • Viral illnesses
  • Ear pain / ear infections
  • Throat pain / Tonsillitis
  • Abdominal pain
  • Conjunctivitis / red eye

No, your child must be accompanied by a legal guardian for medical evaluation and treatment.

Patients are assessed based on the severity of their condition. Waiting times vary depending on the numbers of patients arriving and the time taken to provide emergency care to those already in the department. Rest assured; your child will receive medical attention as soon as possible. There is a system to make sure your child will be reviewed by one of our nurses, if the wait is longer than expected.

Each child can have a maximum of two (2) accompanying adults. More adults cause crowding problems in the waiting area and treatment cubicles. To ensure a safe environment, please avoid bringing healthy children and leave them at home if possible.

We have an active queueing system in the waiting area that provides real-time updates.

Yes! We provide a library of educational materials in both English and Arabic to help you understand your child’s medical condition. Emergency Department Education Material – Sidra Medicine
